Little Ts

Junior Year

At the end of my junior year, Jericho Theater Thespian Honor Society Troupe #6173 held the first annual "Little T's," which are our mini-version of the Tony Awards. I gave out the awards for the 'Excellence in Background Acting' and 'Excellence in Dance.' I performed in the opening and closing numbers, which included "1650 Broadway Medley" and "I See Stars" from Mean Girls.

SpongeBob School Play

Prop/Set Designer

I’ve designed many props for the show, including a ‘Clamshell Flip-Phone’ that I made out of polymer clay and salvaged parts from vintage telephones. I also used foam board, paint, and rhinestones to create a trio of ‘Bat Ray Bass Guitars.’ I enjoyed making props that were stylized versions of marine animals.

Clue

Junior Year

I worked in Publicity for Jericho Theater Production Organization. Along with my colleagues, we made show boards, posters, playbills, advertisements, and ran social media accounts to support the production of the fall play “Clue.” I learned how to effectively run social media accounts and create digital media using PaintX and Pixar applications to create digital content. I helped paint the sets for the stage, and I had a lot of fun working to promote the play to our local community.

Thespian Honor Society

I was inducted into the Thespian Honor Society my sophomore year. We hang out together, build community, and attend field trips and events at local universities.

Frozen

Sophomore Year

I performed again as part of the ensemble cast for our spring musical ‘Frozen,’ which was yet another show about female empowerment and women finding their voices and their paths in life. During this show, I grew closer to the other cast members, and this created a stronger sense of community for me during high school. I had fun singing and dancing with everyone, and our show was featured on the news. My junior year, we were asked to perform on Good Morning America, which is an honor for my school because we were recognized as the best high school performing arts program in the state of NY.

Usdan Summer Art Camp

Theater, Art, and Hip Hop Dance

Freshman Year

For theater camp, we performed plays such as Mary Poppins. I played the role of the Bank Chairman! We also sang musical numbers from well-known masterpieces such as Fiddler on the Roof. I had fun performing ensemble parts, and I was also able to take an Art class where I made many drawings and stickers, which was fun. I also took Hip Hop Dance class, which took me out of my comfort zone, since I’m a terrible dancer, but I had fun with my friends learning new choreography and preparing for a big performance at the end.

Other Plays

Radium Girls

Freshman Year

I Worked in Stage Crew and Costume Crew for our fall play ‘Radium Girls,’ a period piece show that raised awareness about historical discrimination against female laborers and unsafe working conditions that were forced upon women at the beginning of the 20th century. The plot is based on the true story of teenage girls who worked in clock factories from 1917-1926 and were forced to use radium paint to make glow-in-the-dark watch dials, which in turn gave them radiation poisoning, from which they slowly died.

As part of the Costume Crew, I helped get all the actors changed in between scenes. As part of the Stage Crew, I helped with the curtains and lights, and moved around set pieces in between scenes.

Legally Blonde

Freshman Year

I was an ensemble cast member of the musical ‘Legally Blonde,’ where I had fun singing along. I enjoyed performing in my first musical, and the story, while kitschy, was a story of female empowerment that made sense for our majority-female Jericho Theater Production Organization.

Shakespeare Festival

Freshman Year

We performed ‘The Taming of the Shrew,’ and we were the only group that was off-book (no script, all memorized), and the only all-freshman cast that performed during the festival.
